A MAN has been charged with attempted murder after a student was allegedly slashed with a blade in Bournemouth town centre.

The 59-year-old is due to appear before magistrates sitting at Poole today following an incident in Old Christchurch Road.

Police were called to reports alleging a serious assault on a 19-year-old man at 6.32am on Friday, August 18.

It was reported that the complainant was approached from behind by an unknown man who then slashed his neck.

The student was taken to hospital for treatment to a serious cut and has since been released.

Two men, aged 56 and 59 and from Bournemouth, were arrested last Friday on suspicion of attempted murder.

At around 6.15am on Saturday, August 20, a 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder at a Bournemouth address.

The 56-year-old and 32-year-old men have both been released under investigation.
