A PAIR of drug users armed with a Taser fired it a pedestrians from a car, a court heard.

On March 18 last year, at around 9pm, 19-year-olds Luke Calkin and Thomas Wilcox were in a car spotted by pedestrians at the corner of Ripon Road and Malvern Road in Bournemouth.

Bournemouth Crown Court heard witnesses had seen the vehicle pass by the junction, then turn back, before a Taser was discharged from the window.

One pedestrian reported seeing a dark-coloured Ford Focus and then a bright yellow light being fired towards them.

The car was stopped a few hours later in Alma Road, said prosecutor Michael Mason.

The court heard police officers had recognised a strong cannabis smell. They seized cannabis with a street value of around £320-£335, as well as £200 cash, drugs paraphernalia and a haul of weapons.

Calkin admitted separate counts of possessing cannabis, the Taser, knuckledusters and an extendable baton. Wilcox admitted possessing cannabis with intent to supply and possessing pepper spray.

Mr Mason said Wilcox had an “unhealthy interest in weapons”.

“He foolishly believed it was a cool thing to have and it was a hobby.”

Calkin was also convicted of fraudulent evasion of a prohibition after admitting importing a type of handgun into the country.

A parcel at Coventry Airport, addressed to Calkin, was intercepted by officers and found to contain a Walther P99 and ammunition for firing blanks.

Mr Mason said the gun had been altered to fire blanks and that when Calkin was arrested he claimed someone might be “setting him up”.

The court heard Calkin had no previous convictions and that Wilcox was not involved in a “significant drugs operation” as he would only deal to friends.

Calkin, of Throop Close, received an 18 month community order, curfew and 200 hours unpaid work. Wilcox, of Seagrim Road, received a 12 month community order, curfew and 100 hours unpaid work.
