THIS August, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra will once again bring a spectacular weekend of concerts to Meyrick Park, Bournemouth with something for everyone to enjoy.

The three day extravaganza from Friday, August 11 to Sunday, August 13 will feature music of legendary film composer John Williams, all the hits of Queen and another Family Fun Day of concerts and community events.

Following the highly anticipated return of the BSO Proms last year after a five year absence, this year’s programme will be one of the highlights of the summer.

The weekend will get off to an epic start on Friday 11 August with the John Williams at the Oscars concert, celebrating the music of the most successful film-score composer ever. Audiences are invited to get in the mood by dressing up as one of the characters from the many movies that Williams has composed scores for. So get your light sabres at the ready and feel the force of the full BSO and BSO Leverhulme Young Conductor in Association Victor Aviat as they perform a Star Wars medley, unleash your inner superhero and don tights and cape for Superman, or unearth your weathered leather jacket and fedora as intrepid archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones from Raiders of the Lost Ark. There will also be all the magic of Harry Potter, a soundtrack 65 million years in the making with music from the Jurassic Park movies, and many more

If glam rock is more your style, tune up your air guitar and join the BSO together with full rock band and stars from the West End smash hit musical ‘We Will Rock You’ for the brilliant Queen Rock and Symphonic Spectacular on Saturday 12 August, 10 years after making its debut at Meyrick. Big hair and flamboyant Freddie Mercury-inspired outfits are encouraged in this celebration of the iconic music of one of the most popular British rock bands ever, as Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and conductor Pete Harrison bring hit songs including Killer Queen, Don’t Stop Me Now, I Want It All and of course Bohemian Rhapsody to full symphonic life. The evening will also wow audiences with a spectacular fireworks, lasers, lights and pyrotechnics son et lumière finale, choreographed to a specially created soundtrack.

The Daily Echo has teamed up as official media partner and our photographer will be out and about capturing the festival atmosphere, with instant prizes on both nights for the best costumes.

Gates open from 6pm, so bring a picnic, folding chairs and blankets and make an evening of it. Earlybird tickets are available until July 10 for £27 (if booking for both nights, tickets are £26 each). Children’s tickets will be available to purchase on the night for £18.
