ARMED police were called to reports of a man with a gun in Bournemouth town centre last night.

Officers closed Terrace Road near the Hilton Hotel after a call was made to the force at 9pm.

The NPAS helicopter was also called out.

However, this morning a spokesperson for Dorset Police said the incident was "not as reported".

"Police were called at 9.01pm on Sunday, May 21 to a report of a man with a gun outside a property in Terrace Road, Bournemouth," the spokesperson said.

"Officers attended, assisted by the NPAS helicopter, and carried out a search of the area.

"Terrace Road was closed between the Triangle and Exeter Road to ensure continued public safety while officers dealt with the incident.

"However, it was quickly established that the incident was not as reported.

"A man aged in his 20s was taken to hospital to be checked over and to receive the appropriate care.

"A 29-year-old Bournemouth man has been arrested on suspicion of producing a controlled class B drug and is currently assisting officers with their enquiries."
