THOUSANDS will gather for a rally in Bournemouth today to hear politicians, musicians and comedians set out the case for the Labour party.

Shadow chancellor John McDonnell will speak as part of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) conference, which is taking place at the BIC.

More than 2,000 members of the public have booked free tickets for a rally today at 7.30pm.

Shadow education secretary Angela Rayner, CWU general secretary Dave Ward, director Ken Loach and comedians Jeremy Hardy and Francesca Martinez will also speak at the rally.

Mr Ward said: "Politics is changing.

"Who would have thought 2,000 members of the public would come to Bournemouth on a Tuesday evening to talk about beating the Tories and creating the politics of hope?"

He said the rally offers a "real opportunity to call for a different kind of politics".

"We want a new deal for workers, we want to bring the NHS and our railways back into public hands, we want a higher minimum wage and the eradication of insecure employment models," he said.
