A MAN rescued from beneath the wheels of a lorry last week is now fighting for his life, police say.

The 66-year-old from Bournemouth has become critically ill following the collision in Holdenhurst Road, which took place on Wednesday, April 19.

Officers investigating the collision are calling for anyone with information to come forward.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to reports of a crash near the Texaco garage shortly before 2.10pm.

Police closed a section of the road between Wellington Road and St Paul's Road while firefighters worked to free the pedestrian from under the Volvo heavy goods vehicle.

The casualty was rushed to Poole Hospital with suspected leg fractures.

However, detectives say his condition has deteriorated and he has been transferred to Southampton General Hospital, where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

Sergeant Fern Graham, of the traffic unit, said: “The injured man has sadly taken a turn for the worse.

"There were a number of pedestrians and vehicles in the area at the time of the incident and I would ask anyone who witnessed the collision and has yet to speak to officers to please contact Dorset Police.”

Anyone with information should contact Dorset Police via dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting incident number 19:243.
