A BREWERY is currently "reviewing its options" over a troubled pub on the edge of Boscombe.

The Portman Hotel, at Ashley Road, has been shut since December when it was served a notice to leave because of noise complaints.

The council's licensing manager, Nananka Randle, told the Daily Echo at the time that an abatement notice under the Environment Protection Act 1990 was served following "a series of noise complaints".

Councillor Phil Stanley-Watts told the Daily Echo at the time he felt the hotel needed restoring and owners needed to address the issues, as a priority.

The move led to the business being re-advertised to new tenants by the owner, Marston's brewery.

Now brewery bosses have confirmed they are assessing their position in relation to the site. They were unwilling to confirm if their review includes advertising to new tenants once again or selling the premises.

A Marston’s spokesperson said: “We are currently reviewing our options for the site.”

The brewery confirmed in December that the temporary tenancy that had been in place had "been brought to an end by mutual agreement on both sides".

The landlady beforehand had been Claire Higginbotham who had advertised for topless barmaids in the hope of eventually turning the pub into a strip club, as reported by the Daily Echo in January last year.

She became the landlady in November 2012.

Ward councillor Christopher Wakefield said: "It is such a lovely building and a good site. When it had a good landlord it was actually very busy from recollection.

"When the old coal yard site gets developed you're going to have a good group of accommodation and retail units opposite.

"It is a good local pub and I would encourage it to be reopened."
