POLICE have revealed the bizarre excuses given by offenders stopped in a crackdown on Dorset's roads.

One driver told officers he only had a licence in Tasmania, one without insurance said: "I'm not sure I've been paying it - it's all a bit much" and another told police: "Just split up with my girlfriend, whatever."

When stopped, another driver handed his keys to police and told them: ""I'm disqualified, no licence and no insurance, but my wife is pregnant, it's ok."

A driver was stopped on the Dorset Way in a McLaren sports car travelling at 90mph. He had not seen the unmarked police vehicle behind.

The driver was reported to court for the offence and already has nine points on his licence.

A total of five vehicles were seized, one because its driver had no driving licence and four for no insurance, on Good Friday.

The initiative was the work of the No Excuse Specials and Section Specials who joined No Excuse for the day as part of an ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) led operation.
