A WOMAN was treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at her home behind a shop in Winton.

Two fire crews were on scene within minutes after being called to Ripon Road at around 4.20pm.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled a fire in the first floor flat above Chelsea Nails.

The resident, Katrina Grodynski, was treated for smoke inhalation and given oxygen therapy by paramedics.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a faulty electronic cigarette charger, according to a spokesperson for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service.

The incident commander, watch manager Mark Downing, told the Daily Echo at the scene that the small fire had been caused after something draped over the back of a chair came into contact with the vaping charging unit.

He is urging people to ensure they buy charging units from a reputable company.

Ms Grodynski said she was out when the fire started and arrived home to find her flat full of smoke and the alarm sounding.

She called the fire service while "desperately trying to find where the fire was coming from".

"I want to warn people, don't leave these chargers on when you're out. It was the one thing I didn't think about."
