POLICE are investigating after a burglary at an Iceland store in Bournemouth yesterday.

The theft took place at the Iceland in Poole Road in Westbourne around 2.30pm on Wednesday afternoon.

It is alleged that a man entered the shop and stolen cash from the till before making off.

Police had taped off a till and surrounding area inside the store -but shop staff declined to comment.

However, witnesses from nearby shops saw someone speeding away from the frozen food chain in a car along Poole Road before it collided with a parked car and reversed back along the one-way system to the Porterhouse pub.

One witness, who asked not to be named, said: "He really lit up his wheels, there was smoke everywhere. He span the car around up by the pub and seemed to head off towards the Wessex Way.

"Apparently he ran out of Iceland and into the car which was outside the shop, I'm not sure if it was his car, some innocent persons or if there was anyone else involved.

"The next thing I knew was the road was packed with police."
Police are making enquiries in the area.

In a seperate incident, the Wessex Way was closed in both directions for two hours between County Gates roundabout and Bournemouth West roundabout following an accident following a crash linked to a carjacking
