BOURNEMOUTH town centre’s new look McDonald’s restaurant has reopened following a major makeover.

The fast food outlet closed earlier this month for a “digital transformation” that has included the installation of self-service kiosks, tablets for public use and table service.

Bournemouth mayor Cllr Eddie Coope cut the ribbon during yesterday morning’s official opening ceremony.

Owned by franchisee Tony Bennett, the restaurant has been revamped as part of a national rollout by the parent company.

Mr Bennett said: “These changes have been designed to make our customers’ experience as positive as possible and the new technology benefits everyone – whether that is providing people with a chance to get to grips with using a tablet in a relaxed environment, or providing mums with a quick and easy way of ordering their food.

“I was delighted to be able to welcome the mayor of Bournemouth in to the restaurant and hope he enjoyed his visit.”

The newly renovated eatery features self-order kiosks where customers can view the entire menu as well as the nutritional information of each meal before paying. They’ll also be able to use contactless on these kiosks.

And the new tech is not only reserved for front of house, there is cutting edge technology in the new kitchen as well.

The tablets, free to use at a number of selected tables, will enable customers to check their social media, emails or even play games. Additional seating and an indoor play area have also been added to the Old Christchurch Road restaurant.

Mr Bennett, who runs 11 McDonald’s franchises across Hampshire and Dorset, said: “Having already seen these changes in some of my other restaurants I have been overwhelmed with the positive response from my customers and employees. I’ve been a franchisee for a number of years now and have seen the McDonald’s experience transform in this time. Our restaurants are a great leveller and are able to suit the needs of people from any background who want to come in grab a bite to eat or drink and enjoy the atmosphere these changes have created.”
