A GRANDMOTHER whose husband suffered from dementia wants to donate the organ he used to play to a care home which supports people with the condition.

Veronica Evans, who lives in Hengistbury Road, Southbourne, said she wants to give the organ to an organisation that helps people with dementia in honour of her husband Tony.

Tony died on his 79th birthday on April 20 last year - he had suffered with the condition for the last few years of his life.

"My husband got a lot of enjoyment out of it and I want that enjoyment to be passed on to someone else," explained Veronica, who was married to Tony for 13 years.

"He always used to play the organ and music is said to be very therapeutic for people with dementia - and there were times when it calmed him

"I won't really use it now and it's such a shame for it to just sit there unused.

"I think it will be much nicer to pass the organ onto either a home or organisation which supports people with dementia in Tony's name."

According to Veronica, who has four granddaughters, The Yamaha Electric Organ is in a wonderful condition and a really "beautiful piece of furniture".

"I really want the organ to go to someone who will benefit from it like Tony did," she added.

"He used to sit there playing for hours and I think to pass it on to someone else will be a great legacy for him."

Tony, who had three children and two grandchildren, loved music and attended a number of BSO concerts with Veronica.

"He just loved music - whether it was listening or playing - and it would be great to share that love of music with others," added Veronica.

"I just want the organ to go to a nice home where people will get the most out of it."
