FANS of a popular Bournemouth pizzeria could soon be able to pick up a slice until 5am at weekends.

The owners of Pizzeria Triangolo, near the Triangle, have submitted a licensing application to Bournemouth council requesting that its current opening hours be extended from 11.30pm to 4am Sunday to Monday and 5am at weekends.

They have also applied for a license to sell alcohol at the premises in Commercial Road from 11am to midnight seven days a week.

Owner Siad Daimallah said the late night opening is vital to keep the business afloat.

"Unfortunately we don't make a lot of money during the day because we are surrounded by night-time economy," he said.

"We think we could become a really popular late-night venue for people who want a slice of pizza at all hours."

The restaurant opened six months ago and has already established itself in the area with five star reviews on TripAdvisor for its stone-fired pizza.

But Mr Daimallah said there is a risk the restaurant could close if the licensing application is declined.

"Our rent is very expensive and we are worried that if we cannot stay open longer to bring in more customers then we may have to close," he added.

"We are surrounded by several clubs, pubs and takeaways, many of them open until 5am so we hope to be granted the same chance as them."

According to the licensing application the restaurant will continue to be food-led, with only the customers who sit-in and order a main course being allowed to purchase an alcoholic drink - which will be limited to beer, wine and cider.
