SHELTER will be offered to all rough sleepers in Bournemouth and Poole due to freezing temperatures over the next few days.

A Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) has been issued for both boroughs, triggered by forecasts of minus temperatures.

As a result the Bournemouth and Poole Rough Sleeper team will be attempting to offer shelter to all people sleeping rough in Bournemouth and Poole.

The Met Office say temperatures will fall as low as -3C over the weekend and Monday.

Caroline Roundhill, housing strategy and policy manager at Bournemouth council, said: “If SWEP has been activated and you are concerned about someone who is rough sleeping, then you can inform the BPRST on 01202 315962.

"If a team member is not available to take your call, then leave details of the person you are concerned about on the 24-hour answerphone.

“At other times of the year when there is not severe weather, you can still report concerns about rough sleepers so that they can receive help and support by calling 0300 500 0914 or visit www.streetlink.org.uk."

A spokesperson for Borough of Poole, said: “With the temperature dropping we are providing emergency accommodation to people who are rough sleeping in Poole.

"Ten places are available at the Gateway Church, Alder Road where a bed and hot meal will be provided. If you are aware of anyone who is going to be street homeless please refer them to meet at The Salvation Army, 2 New Orchard, Poole at 8.30pm or contact the Bournemouth Poole Rough Sleepers Team on 01202 315962.”
