AN 11-YEAR-OLD boy threatened a classmate with a blade during an altercation at a Bournemouth school.

A police investigation has been launched following the incident at Tregonwell Academy’s junior site in Ensbury Avenue on Monday morning.

The victim, also 11, is not believed to have been physically injured in the incident.

A spokesman for Dorset Police told the Daily Echo: “Dorset Police is currently investigating an incident that occurred on October 17 at Tregonwell Academy in Bournemouth.

“It was reported that a boy was physically threatened by another boy who was subsequently found to have been carrying a blade, believed to be from a pencil sharpener. Both are aged 11.

“The full circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated.”

He said officers were notified of the incident at 11.30am but did not attend the scene.

An investigation is also being carried out at the school, in conjunction with the Safer Schools Team.

Nicki Morton, Director of Special Education at Ambitions Academies Trust, said: “An argument took place between two pupils in the playground at the Nigel Bowes campus at morning break time. Staff intervened and no injuries were suffered.

“Later in the day one of the boys was found to have a small pencil sharpener blade on his person. He was immediately sent home. The school informed the police to make them aware and they passed it on to the Safer Schools Team. Both sets of parents were contacted.”

Nigel Bowes Campus is part of Tregonwell Academy and works with children with emotional and social difficulties.

Its staff and management team are highly experienced in dealing with issues when they arise, said a spokeswoman.

Tregonwell Academy is one of a number of schools under the umbrella of the Ambitions Academies Trust.

The incident took place at the Academy’s Nigel Bowes site in Ensbury Avenue, which educates primary aged children.

Secondary age children are taught at the Petersfield Road campus in Boscombe East and those with significant emotional or medical needs are taught at the Throop Learning Centre.
