A MUM-OF-FIVE with multiple sclerosis has defied her disability to leap 15,000ft from a plane.

Just months ago, Sarah Waters said she wanted to end her own life after fearing for a future with the neurological disease that has left her severely disabled without the use of her arms and her legs.

However, she discovered a treatment available overseas that could halt the progress of the degenerative condition.

Determined not to let physical disadvantages stop her, Sarah completed the skydive at Skydive Buzz in Honiton surrounded by family as part of a series of events to fund the treatment which costs £70,000.

Sarah, 47, who was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis in 2010, said: “To experience the freedom of a parachute jump was incredible. It was pretty nerve-racking when the door opened but I’d do it again.

"The actual jump was incredible. My disability didn't get in the way and I felt alive.

"Floating back down to the ground and taking in all the views was quite calming. In that moment, I forgot about everything.

"Everyone was crying when I landed, my mum, my kids. It was very emotional.”

So far more than £10,000 has been raised for Sarah to undergo revolutionary hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in an attempt to halt her condition.

Sarah, from Poole, who is mum to Charlie, 23, Holly, 21, Nancy, 18, Sidney, 17 and Stanley, 15, said she is overwhelmed by the support of friends, family and strangers. Her ex-husband Norman Loveland has sold his Harley Davidson motorbike to donate £4,500 and husband Rusty will complete England’s longest and fastest zip wire at the Eden Project this Friday.

She said: “People have been amazing, so kind. I have a friend doing an auction, there are parties being thrown, a Zumba night, car boot sales. It’s endless.

“Now I am looking to do something else but I want it to be quite shocking.

“It would mean everything in the world to have the treatment. All I want is to be a normal mum, a normal wife. I just want to be me again.”
