RESIDENTS were put through their paces when they were given the opportunity to learn first hand what is involved with a career in the Armed Forces.

A pilot day was held for people aged 18-50 to learn about the regular and reserve Armed Forces and take part in team-building exercises and be pushed to their physical limits.

Some scaled the climbing wall, while others ran and lifted weights to test their physical endurance, at the Army Reserve Centre at Wallisdown Road on Friday (SEP 23).

David McArthur, business development manager of Jobcentre Plus, said on the day: “Today has been a pilot introduction to 18-to-50-year-olds to look at the possibilities within the Armed Forces.

“There are 72 different careers within the Armed Forces - from cadets and reserves to full-time options.

“It’s to show there are so many different ways forward.

“Dorset is such a fantastic place to use those skills and take forward to different industries.

“We are blessed in Dorset with some fantastic private industry.”
