RESIDENTS are being urged to take part in a special fundraising cycling event in aid of heart patients.

The Pedal Power 2016 event takes place this Sunday (SEP 25) and will see participants take in the views of the New Forest.

It begins at 9.30am at the White Buck Inn at Burley and aims to raise much-needed cash to benefit more than 700 heart patients of the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

It is hoped the event will raise enough money for the new vascular transducer probe used to treat heart rhythm disturbances.

Dr Girish Babu, consultant cardiologist at the heart unit, said: “Our heart unit provides specialist cardiac services for around one million people and the new probe will be a fantastic additional resource to have.

“Most people know someone who’s been affected by a heart condition and Pedal Power is a great way to support the unit while keeping fit and enjoying yourself.”

Cyclists can take part in either of the 10km, 50km or 100km routes.

All finishers will receive a Pedal Power medal.
