A QUIET Bournemouth street was one of the town centre's 'most dangerous' locations in April.

Cumnor Road, which lies behind Old Christchurch Road, had the third highest number of crime reports in the area for that month.

In total, 19 crimes were reported.

Of these, five were reports of violence or sexual offences.

Police have been unable to prosecute anyone for three of these reports, while the second two are under investigation.

Eight offences relate to anti-social behaviour, while three reports of criminal damage or arson, one of a drugs offence and two of theft were also made.

The road is around 83 yards long.

Residents have spoken of their shock at the news.

Sarah Kempton, 23, uses the road as a cut through from Old Christchurch Road.

She said: “I’m always a bit wary of using it at night but because it backs onto bars and clubs on the main road you would think it would be safe.

“It’s such a small road I’m surprised at the amount of serious incidents.

“It really makes you think about using it at night especially as a young woman.”

A spokesman from SSI Languages, which has offices based in Cumnor Road, said: “We haven’t noticed a great deal of crime because we are usually only here during the day.

“If there is a huge amount of crime we don’t know about it.”

Ward councillor Robert Chapman said: "It is an area noted for its transient community.

"I am very sorry to hear of anywhere where crime is increasing."

Old Christchurch Road had the second highest number of reported offences for the month.

A total of 21 crimes were reported, with five relating to violence or sexual offences.

30 crimes were reported to have taken place in the Square, including anti-social behaviour, theft and public order offences.

Two reports were also made relating to violence or sexual offences during the month.

There were also 18 offences reported in Beale Place, with five reports of anti-social behaviour, four of shoplifting and two of violence or sexual offences among the complaints made to officers.
