When the sun comes out, so does the litter.

One furious resident shot this film on Bournemouth beach yesterday as beach-goers went home after a day in the sun.

Anya Levkouskis, who filmed the clip, wrote: "This was Bournemouth Beach tonight.

"I hate to sound like some activist because I'm not. I'm a simple human being who absolutely loves and appreciates the incredible beaches we have, and how lucky I am to live here and to have been brought up here.

"Not only does it make the beach look ugly, it endangers wildlife and pollutes the damn place, and on a less important note... makes my Instagram pictures look shit.

"It is NOT HARD to collect all your rubbish into one bag and put it on one of the hundreds of bins provided around town when you're done.

"So please please please from the bottom of my heart, whether you live here or are visiting, keep my home town clean and beautiful 💙"

And on Tuesday, another member of the public slammed the litterers for the mess, saying they should be ashamed.

Visiting from Salisbury, the man said: "How difficult is it to be responsible for your own bit of rubbish and take it to the bin?

"I don't even know where the council would begin to even try and clear up this mess?

"Shame on these people, shame on them."

Bournemouth council says the bins on the beach are regularly emptied by lorry, but if there is exceptional demand and the bins overflow, beach team's collect and empty them manually.

Of course that only works if people actually put their rubbish in the bin.

In the summer months litter pickers work from 4am to clean the beach for the day's tourists.

More than 200 tonnes of rubbish are collected from the beach every year. Private enforcement officers have had the power to fine litterers in Bournemouth since October.

They fined almost 300 people in the first three months of the trial, but in May were criticised for being overzealous after reports they were following people into shops to issue notices.

In 2014, Bournemouth East MP Tobias Ellwood said he thought litterers should be prosecuted if they continued to ignore polite requests not to drop their rubbish.
