YELLOW Buses have produced a Pokestop map for users - as bus operators see a spike in passengers thanks to the gaming phenomenon.

Both morebus and Yellow Buses have reported an increase in people using the buses around Bournemouth and Poole, ready to catch the rare and sought-after Pokemon.

And Yellow Buses have thrown themselves into the popular new game after posting details of Pokemon Go ‘Pokestops’ on its website.

Jenni Wilkinson, head of marketing and customer excellence, said: “As Pokemon has become such a sensation we thought we’d get involved.

“We’ve posted details of the Pokestops on our journey planner and interactive maps so gamers can find out where they are.

“They can also use our buses to get there and with wi-fi on our fleet and with our website and app available on all mobile devices it is really easy.

“Passenger numbers have gone up and people like using the buses because it’s safer than trying to find Pokestops while driving a car.

“We’ve got the wi-fi, we’ve got the wheels and we’ve got the ‘where to find them’ – it’s a great way to get out exploring.

“We’re the only bus company in the area doing this and it has become extremely popular.”

Morebus communications manager, Nikki Horner, said: “We’ve never seen anything quite like this.

“Our drivers are being approached by children and adults alike because they’ve seen creatures in the same position as our buses.

“Some are tired of walking and just want to ride with us for a few stops to see what they can find further down the road.

“This is a great way for people to get fitter - and getting the bus is probably a better bet than travelling by car because our stops are close together and are proving to be popular Pokémon collection points.

“We do urge caution though. People can get so involved in catching Pokémon, they forget about their surroundings.

“They should be fully aware of buses approaching - and of other traffic on the roads.”

Posting on Facebook about Pokemon Go, Dorset Police’s No Excuse team also said more than one cyclist has received “very frank advice” regarding the dangers of riding one-handed while looking down at their phone.
