A stag party guest who blew £7,500 on Spearmint Rhino strippers has received a settlement from the club after suing them for taking advantage of him.

Gil David, 34, said he'd drunk more than 30 alcoholic drinks in a 12-hour binge in Bournemouth in August 2013.

And he told how he woke up with more than a hangover after finding the credit card bills, including £1,800 tips for the girls, in his hotel room.

At Central London County Court, Mr David claimed the club had "exploited" his drunkenness.

"I wasn't in control of my faculties and didn't realise what I was spending," he said. "I was coerced into spending a third of my salary in five hours."

Mr David, of Portstewart, Northern Ireland, was in Bournemouth for a friend's stag party.

He said he was drunk when he got to Spearmint Rhino but the club continued to serve him alcohol. Credit card slips showed tips to the dancers of more than his monthly salary.

"There's no way, had I had all my faculties, that I would have spent anywhere near that kind of money," he said.

Robert Sutherland, solicitor for the club, said Mr David had willingly paid for "entertainment" from the young ladies, including spending time alone in a booth with two strippers.

He had signed off the payments and his complaints to police, trading standards and credit card companies had not been upheld.

"It was your decision - no one forced you into staying," the solicitor told Mr David.

After Judge Andrew Lenon QC suggested that there might be no clear winner in the case, the parties agreed to settle.

Mr Sutherland said the settlement would see Mr David receiving a confidential sum but said the club had not admitted any wrongdoing.

In 2014 the Daily Echo reported on Mr David's case, which prompted others to come forward claiming they too had been exploited at the club.

The club's licence was renewed despite 15 objections.
