BOURNEMOUTH East MP Tobias Ellwood has taken part in the commemorations on the first anniversary of the terrorist attack which killed 38 people in Tunisia.

Locals gathered at the site of the seaside massacre in Port El Kantaoui, near Sousse, for a minute's silence and placed flowers on the sand representing each victim.

The 15-minute long emotional ceremony was attended by around 50 people – including hotel workers and local people who had tried to help victims of the attack. Thirty-eight people, including 30 Britons, were killed in the mass shooting on June 26 2015.

Mr Ellwood, who is minister for North Africa, lost his brother Jon in the terrorist bombing of Bali in 2002.

He said: “On the first anniversary of the horrific terrorist attack in Sousse we remember the 38 people brutally murdered, including thirty British nationals.

“We keep in our thoughts and prayers the family and friends who lost loved ones, those who were injured and others who witnessed this horrendous attack.”

Mr Ellwood also held meetings with officials from the Tunisian government.

Gunman Seifeddine Rezgui was shot dead by police after carrying out the attack, for which Islamic State claimed responsibility.
