FRUSTRATED residents have complained to Bournemouth council that they are still waiting for their Christmas trees to be removed.

Several complained after trees were missed by the borough's crews during its annual collection service, which ran between January 11 and January 22.

Resident Chris Kelly said: “I was told by the council I should take the tree to Millhams [Recycling Centre] but putting a Christmas tree in a car is not practical and involves a seven mile round journey.

“Their next suggestion is to hire their contractors to take it.”

Georgina Fry, the council’s waste and resources project manager, said the authority is the only one in the county that provides a free Christmas recycling service and that crews had visited every road in the borough.

“As this service has now finished for 2016, we are working to deal with a small number of issues raised during the collection period, including individual missed trees on Park Lane and Glenroyd Gardens,” she added.

“Residents who missed this collection are advised to take their tree to Millhams or Christchurch Recycling Centre.

"Residents could also arrange a tree collection this year through Diverse Abilities, a local disability charity, for a small donation.”
