TWO six-year-old friends walked for six miles in Bournemouth to raise £520 for a three-year-old disabled boy from Wimborne.

Amelia Sanger from Ensbury Park and Poppy Puncheon from Highcliffe travelled by foot from Hengistbury Head to Bournemouth Pier in support of their friend, Jakob Sales, who has cerebral palsy.

Jakob's family including mum, Line, dad, Ben, and Jakob's twin brother, Elliott, are currently trying to raise £65,000 for an operation, called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy. The operation would allow the little boy to take his first steps, rather than being bound to a wheelchair.

Amelia's mum, Christina, said: "We did a bit of a brain storm on what we could do to help Jakob and we came up with doing the walk.

"Amelia was up for it and she asked her friend, Poppy, to come along. Jakob's mum, Line, and I have been friends for years and Amelia has always had an interest in Jakob and likes helping him."

Asked how the walk went, Christina added: "They did really well. It was the worst day ever because it was pouring down. It took us about two hours and we tried not to stop for breaks.

"I was really surprised that they did it and they didn't moan once."

The family have already collected around 25-per-cent of the money to reach their target and have been helped along the way by various individuals and businesses who have wanted to support Jakob in his mission to walk.

Line Sales said: "We are so grateful to Amelia, whose mum is a good friend of mine, and Poppy. It is amazing to see what good friends we have and we have been humbled by the help that we have received.

"You think that it is going to be really hard to raise £65,000 for this operation, but then people want to help and it's humbling.

"We are going forward but we still need a lot of help. Thank you to everyone who has already fundraised for Jakob."
