HUNDREDS of ‘speeding tickets’ have been issued since the A338 rebuild began in October.

In total, 367 Notices of Intended Prosecution relating to various driving offences have been issued between Thursday, October 15 and Monday, November 23.

The Spur Road - which is currently undergoing a £22 million revamp - is subject to a 40 miles per hour speed restriction between Blackwater Junction and Ashley Heath.

A spokesperson from Dorset County Council said: "The 40mph speed limit is in place for safety reasons - with workers nearby and the contraflow in use with narrow lanes.

"The cameras are operated by Vysionics, but driving offences are processed by Dorset Police."

The road will be back to four lanes from December 14 after council officials confirmed phase one of the rebuild is on course to finish as scheduled.

Both carriageways should be open over Christmas, although the speed limit will remain.

A week of overnight closures will take place from Monday, December 7 until Friday, December 11 between 8pm and 6am in order to build the contraflow needed for the next phases at Ashley Heath.

The next stage of work will begin on January 3, with a full overnight closure.

From January 4 until February the top part of the southbound carriage will be closed with traffic heading south diverted onto the contraflow on the northbound carriageway.

From Feburary to March, the top part of the northbound carriageway will be closed, with traffic crossing to the newly rebuilt southbound carriageway at the QinetiQ access.
