DON’T forget about disadvantaged teenagers this festive season.

Once again the Daily Echo is running its annual toy appeal and we are asking our readers to buy an extra present to ensure that no child goes without a gift under the Christmas tree.

So far we have been blown away by the generosity of some of readers who have dropped off their gifts at the Daily Echo offices in Richmond Hill, Bournemouth, and our Swanage office in Commercial Road.

But we still need more donations to help us bring a little festive magic to sick and disadvantaged children.

And we urgently need gifts that would be appropriate for older children who shouldn't be forgotten about over the Christmas period.

This year the Echo is working in partnership with NatWest, the Amelia-Grace Rainbow Fund and the Trussell Trust to help support the foodbanks’ Christmas hamper appeal.

Victims of domestic violence, young people in children’s homes and families receiving support from the social services will all benefit from the appeal.

And once again tots in hospital over Christmas will also receive a toy through the Rainbow Fund, a charity set up in memory of eight-year-old Amelia-Grace Cooper.

The youngster died in 2010 following a battle with a rare form of childhood cancer called neuroblastoma.

The presents will be distributed through organisations and charities including the Bournemouth, Kinson and West Howe and Ringwood foodbanks, the Salvation Army, Townsend Children’s Centre and the Butterfly Foundation to ensure that everyone in need will have a present this Christmas.

Phil Coysh, regional manager for the Trussell Trust, said: “Facing hunger and being referred to a foodbank is particularly stark in the lead up to Christmas.

“That’s why many Trussell Trust foodbanks offer a Christmas hamper as well as the standard emergency food parcel.

“We’re very grateful that with the support of the Echo’s readers, the Bournemouth, Kinson & West Howe, and Ringwood foodbanks will be able to provide a little something extra for families to go alongside a Christmas hamper.

“What a brilliant way to give a little festive lift to a family facing crisis in your local community this Christmas."

Gifts will be collected at the Daily Echo offices in Richmond Hill, Bournemouth, and our Swanage office in Commercial Road.

There will also be collection bins at NatWest branches in Bournemouth, Westbourne, Poole High Street, Upper Parkstone, Broadstone, Wimborne, Boscombe, Southbourne, Wareham, Winton, Castlepoint, Christchurch, New Milton, Hythe and Lymington.

The Toy Appeal will run until Friday, December 11 so we can get all the gifts wrapped and ready for Christmas delivery.

Anyone who would like to give a toy to a specific charity, please label your donation.
