A MOORDOWN boy has starred in a recreation of the 1947 Royal wedding as part of a £100million TV series about the Queen.

Oliver McKinnon-Wardell, eight, from Talbot House Preparatory School, who lives with mum, Fiona, her partner, Peter, and Oliver's sister, Maddie, played the part of a young Prince Michael of Kent during a week of filming at Ely Cathedral in Cambridgeshire. It was all part of of a new Netflix series entitled, The Crown, which will be shown next year.

His proud mum, Fiona McKinnon, said: "Ollie's done lots of short films through the university before but this is the first professional filming that he's done.

"He went for the role of the young Prince Charles way back in April and got down to the final two, but unfortunately didn't get it. Around four weeks later he got a call from the casting director and was asked to be a young Prince Michael of Kent, who was one of the page boys at the Royal wedding.

"We were there for a week while the filming descended on Ely Cathedral. It was quite overwhelming and a lot to take in, but Ollie took it all on his stride."

Fiona says that Oliver was treated to his own dressing room and they stayed in a hotel which was just stone's throw from Ely Cathedral.

"Ollie is just testing the water at the moment to see if acting is what he wants to do, but I think it was something fun for him during the summer holidays. It's a great experience for the here and now."

The Crown is the most expensive drama ever made by the US streaming company and its first to be made in the UK, which follows the life of The Queen from her wedding in 1947 to the present day.

Actors featuring in The Crown include Claire Foy, who has previously appeared in the BBC programme, Little Dorrit, as Queen Elizabeth II and Matt Smith, the former leading star of Doctor Who, who plays the Duke of Edinburgh.
