A FAMILY has told of the terrifying moment a car crashed through gates to their driveway and ploughed into their car.

The car was being driven by a 94-year-old man, reported to be affected by a serious medical episode, when it crashed into a wall, a gate and an Audi before eventually coming to a halt.

The elderly man died at the scene despite attempts to save his life by police and paramedics.

The incident took place just before 10.30am on Sunday when a family of five, who have declined to be named, were at home in Fairview Road in Broadstone. The man died at 11.11am.

"We heard a massive bang and at first I thought something had fallen over and smashed in the house," said the householder, who lives with his wife and three children aged 11, six and 12 weeks.

"When I first saw the car I couldn't figure out how it had got there. We called the emergency services but sadly the gentleman died."

His wife added: "It was an accident and something that could have happened to anyone and we feel for the man's family. It was shocking and sadly someone has lost their life.

"We are also thankful that none of our family was injured because often the children play at the front of the house and even sit in the car on the driveway."

Police closed the road for several hours after the car hit a wall around 500ft from its final resting place. It then travelled up a hill, across a junction, through metal gates and up a steep driveway before hitting the Audi A4.

The 94-year-old man's family have been informed of his death.

Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact PC Lawrence in the Poole traffic department on 101.
