A CHARITY fete held in memory of a young Bournemouth woman attracted hundreds of people over the weekend.

Jo Snooks died aged just 27 earlier this year and her family decided to raise money for Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in London where she was treated.

Jo was a keen fund raiser who had organised events for good causes including the Lewis Manning Hospice and Macmillan Caring Locally.

Last year she organised a family day at Avon Social Club in Avon Road, Charminster and her aunt, Debbie, said the family decided to put on a similar event in her memory this year.

Bournemouth council allowed for the road to be closed for the day and events kicked off with a parade featuring the Dolphin Marching Band, Shokk Waves dancers and the Pirates of Poole.

There was also live music, a magic show and face painting as well as an appearance by current and former AFC Bournemouth players.

Ex-Cherries manager Harry Redknapp and former strikers Steve Fletcher and Alan Connell were among those who attended.

Jo was treated at St Thomas' Hospital for six weeks after she collapsed with breathing difficulties and other problems caused by toxic shock.

The former hotel receptionist had been transferred there from the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and was responding to treatment until she got an infection which led to her death.

Debbie said the event raised an impressive £6,500 and thanked everyone for their help.

"It was an absolutely fantastic weekend and better than I ever imagined," she added.
