A 90-year-old woman has completed an exhilarating fundraising challenge by strapping herself to the wings of an aeroplane.
Brenda Chapman, from Parkstone, has raised £1,500 for Bournemouth Hospital Charity after getting on board a plane at Compton Abbas Airfield and doing a wing walk.
“It was beautiful up there, it made me want to be a bird,” she said. “The countryside is so wonderful and you can’t see it all properly until you’re up high.
“I was up around 500 to 600ft. We could have gone higher, up to 1,000ft, but owing to the weather we were limited.
“It was a job for me to put my arms out in the wind but I wanted to see it through.”
Mrs Chapman said following the experience, which lasted 10 minutes, she was given an additional £50 in sponsorship by a woman who had been watching her from the ground.
“I’m so pleased to have raised this amount for the hospital charity,” she added. “It was a wonderful experience and I’d do it again tomorrow.”
