TWO people were taken to hospital for treatment after a car overturned near St Paul's Roundabout in Bournemouth.

Police officers, paramedics and firefighters were all called to the scene at Oxford Road, which connects St Pauls Road and Madeira Roundabout, at around 7.20am.

It was initially thought that the car, a silver BMW registered to a man from Bournemouth, which had rolled onto its roof as a result of a collision, may have been on fire.

However, on arrival, firefighters established that this was not the case.

A spokesperson for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 7.19am we received a call reporting a car on its roof with smoke emitting after a road traffic collision on Oxford Road in Bournemouth.

"A crew from Springbourne attended and reported no signs of fire, but stayed in attendance to make the scene safe."

During the collision, the silver BMW struck a red Fiat Stilo and a blue Renault Clio, both of which were believed to have been stationary at the time of the incident.

All three male occupants of the car were able to escape and were not trapped in the vehicle.

A spokesperson for South Western Ambulance Service said that two people who were in the car were taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital for minor injuries.

The other man escaped without any injuries.

Police officers closed off Oxford Road at the junction with St Pauls Road while the emergency services attended to those involved in the crash.
