AT just four years old BMX racer Emelia Harvard-Taylor is set to represent Team GB in an upcoming event.

Emelia will compete at the UCI World International Level in Zolder, Belgium in July having qualified for the championships recently.

The international event will welcome 3,000 riders over the course of a week from 55 different nations around the world.

Emelia has just raced at rounds seven and eight of the British BMX Series Nationals in Peckham, where her power, skill and determination earned her a podium on both Saturday and Sunday, finishing third on both occasions despite being more than a year younger than her competitors.

The courageous Bournemouth youngster, who turns five next month, raced in the female six and under category where all of the other racers were six-years-old.

Emelia’s mum, Dawn, said: “We are very proud of her and she loves BMX racing. On race meetings she is in her zone and concentrating on her race with the finish line on her mind.”

She added: "Emelia is very excited about representing Team GB at the UCI World International Level next month but she has lots of races before that."

Emelia trains twice a week with the Bournemouth BMX club in Iford and attends races most weekends all around the country.

Her form in these race weekends mean she is currently ranked first in her category in all of the BMX club races and regionals.

Emelia is not happy stopping there though, despite only starting BMX racing last year.

She already has her sights set on becoming the UK’s next Olympic star after her rapid rise through the ranks to become one of the country’s best young talents.

Emelia, a pupil of St Mark's School in Talbot village, will now continue her preparations for her remaining series races and the world championships next month.
