HIS name is legendary in precision driving and at this year’s Bournemouth Wheels Festival he’ll be attempting the weekend’s big stunt.

Paul Swift is well-known in the trade and many would say that his surname couldn’t be more fitting.

His dad, Russ, is an icon of stunt driving and Paul became a member of his team at a young age, performing stunts in a half-scale miniature car.

These days, Paul leads a team of the world’s top precision drivers, performing at motor shows and on TV around the world.

Paul will be at the Wheels Festival, which runs from May 29-31, for the first time this year.

He will be attempting to drive the length of East Overcliff Drive on two wheels on the Saturday evening of the weekend and will also be found performing stunts daily with the Ford Display Team in the new pop-up arena on the demonstration straight.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Paul said: “I’m really excited about performing at Bournemouth Wheels Festival; I’ve watched some of the videos from last year and am really looking forward to being part of it this year.

“Over the course of the weekend I’m going to be performing my stunt show in the arena, which includes speedy parking manoeuvres and car ballet, I’m bringing my Mk2 Escort rally car to give rides and, if the conditions are right, I’m going to attempt to balance a brand new Ford Focus on two wheels and drive the length of the cliff top.”

Paul’s passion for stunts began at the young age of seven, when he learnt to drive the family ride-on lawnmower on two wheels back in 1986.

He set the Guinness World Record for performing the stunt over a distance of 230 metres.

The second Bournemouth Wheels Festival is set to be bigger and better, with the popular monster truck arena on the beach doubled in size.

There will be stunt teams showing off their skills and the real petrol heads will be in heaven, as everything from historic Formula One cars to Le Mans cars take to the demonstration straight on the East Overcliff.

There will be cars on display at the BIC and Pavilion and desert driving action on the beach, alongside motorbike stunt riders and BMX and skateboarders.
