A FEARLESS feline, who had been missing for two months, has been reunited with his owner after he spent over a week on a former church hall roof.

Klyde the cat first went missing from his home in St Michael’s Road, Bournemouth in March. After making his way to a building site next to St Peter’s Hall on Hinton Road, Klyde stayed there for nearly two months.

In that time, he ended up climbing onto the disused building’s roof, prompting multiple calls to the RSPCA from concerned residents.

Owner Janet White said she had lost all hope of Klyde returning home before she received a call from the RSPCA telling her they had him.

“I was shocked he was alive. I couldn’t believe it when the RSPCA said they’d been trying to catch him for a week. I don’t know how he got over there and up on that roof," she said.

“He’s a bit of a wildcat to be honest. He’s not feral but I don’t think his last owner could cope with him.

“He’s a lovely cat, though, a little sweetie - but he’s destroyed my furniture over the years."

Janet, who has another cat called Bonnie, said she reported Klyde missing to the microchip company after he had gone a week and posted fliers around her neighbourhood.

“Then that was it. We gave up hope until recently when I got the call from the RSPCA.

“They said builders at the site of this disused building had been feeding him. It wasn’t until he got stuck on the roof where they were working that they called the RSPCA.”

Karen Gregor, an animal collection officer, returned several times to the building to try and catch Klyde. However, the crafty kitty managed to evade her and only came down after a builder climbed a ladder and got Klyde to climb onto his shoulder.

“I’m so pleased we were able to help reunite Klyde with his owner after over two months of going missing and a rather big adventure,” she said.

“Thankfully for Klyde, his owner had done the sensible thing every pet owner should do and had him microchipped, which meant we were able to contact her straight away.”

She added: “It’s a happy day for us, for Mrs White and Klyde’s best cat friend Bonnie, and we are delighted this lovely boy has been able to return home safely.”
