A CAMPAIGN urging people to "Love Where You Walk" has been launched on a Bournemouth estate.

The project aims to spruce up some of the most heavily-used alleyways and pavements in West Howe.

Residents have identified the worst offending locations and are working with Bournemouth Borough Council's street cleansing team to tackle litter, dog mess and graffiti.

Dorset Police and pupils at the Leaf Academy and Heathlands Primary are also joining in with the clean-up campaign, while the council's design and heritage team is seeking residents' views for further regeneration of the alleys and West Howe community Enterprises and Sainsbury's will be providing refreshments.

Martha Searle, West Howe's Neighbourhood Development Officer, said: "This is a really simple but effective way of tackling antisocial behaviour and will give a real sense of ownership to those living near to the affected walkways.

"By working together as a community and in partnership with the council, we can ensure that our pavements and streets stay clean and safe for the benefit of everyone in the community."

The next areas to be targeted will be Heathlands Walk, Common Lane on May 27, Bluebird Walk on June 2, Taylor Walk on June 10, Youth Walk on June 16 and Spitfire Walk on June 17.

There will also be events at the unnamed walkway between Duck Lane and Poole Lane on June 8 and at the walkway between Coleman Road and Springwater Road on June 9, which will include a consultation to give them a proper name.

All events will take place between 3pm and 5pm.
