CHERRIES fans - just like the team - have proved to be the tops.

They clubbed together and raised £600 in less than four hours to buy a season ticket for long-time supporter Dan Hall.

The 27-year-old, who was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in October last year, is hoping to be out of hospital at the start of next season to watch his team's first games in the Premier League.

He said: "I've just had so much support, from the fans and the team as well.

"When I was in hospital, Tommy Elphick and Marc Pugh came to visit me, so everyone has been absolutely amazing."

Dan is due to undergo another round of chemotherapy today.

He will then receive a bone marrow transplant, and said he hopes to be able to leave hospital at the beginning of August - just in time for the start of the season.

"That's what I'm going to be thinking about and aiming for when I'm in hospital," he said.

"I want to go to as many games as I possibly can."

The effort to raise funds was organised by another lifelong AFC Bournemouth supporter, Alex Deutsch, who said he was blown away by the fans' community spirit.

He said: "Dan's like me - he's been there [for the team] through it all.

"I put a single Tweet about raising money for his season ticket on Twitter, and within four hours we had enough money to do it. It was amazing. We actually had more than enough money in the end."

He added: "The thing that I've always loved about the Cherries is that it's a community club.

"When we were promoted, I did wonder if we were going to lose that side of it. But what's happened with Dan shows that's not going to happen - there were so many people who stepped up."
