A weather warning of strong winds has been released by the Met Office today.

The yellow warning of wind will affect counties across the South West from 7pm this evening until 7pm on Tuesday, with gusts of 50-60mph predicted and isolated gusts of 65-70mph in exposed areas.

The Chief Forecaster said: “A deepening area of low pressure will move east across northern Scotland during Monday evening, bringing strong westerly winds to many parts of Northern Ireland, southern Scotland, England and Wales with gales and locally severe gales in places.

“A focus for some particularly gusty winds may be adjacent to the Bristol Channel coast during the early hours of Tuesday.

“A cold and showery northwest airstream will become established for Tuesday, with powerful gusts in and near showers, particularly over Northern Ireland, southwest Scotland and Northern England.”

The public are being told to be aware of the risk of localised damage from these winds, and for minor disruption to travel.
