WORLD record holder and three times London Marathon winner Paula Radcliffe showed her support for a fitness project on a recent visit to Moors Valley.

The athlete found out about Christchurch and East Dorset Partnership’s Activate Coast and Countryside project while enjoying some time out at the country park.

The project aims to help people get fit, with over 1,000 locals expected to take part this year in running, golf, canoeing, cycling, fishing and Nordic walking.

Health and activities officer Jackie O’Connor said: “It was wonderful to welcome Paula Radcliffe to Moors Valley.

“While we are not offering marathon running as part of the Activate programme, there are many other ways we can help people improve their fitness, both at the Park and across a range of locations in East Dorset and Christchurch.

“It’s a great opportunity to try out new activities or pick up the basics of a sport, and we can also help families and individuals enjoy exercising together and support those returning to exercise after illness or general inactivity.”

The project launched last year after a fund boost of over £200,000 by Sport England.

A total of 15 activities are on offer for adults and families, which include taster sessions and beginner courses.

Activities also take place at Highcliffe Castle, Kingston Lacy National Trust, and other community locations.

Details of all the courses and activities available can be found on the Moors Valley website moors-valley.co.uk or via Activate Coast and Countryside’s dedicated Face-book page.
