TWO people were treated for smoke inhalation after a tea light fell onto a bed and set it on fire.

The fire service said the residents were lucky that a neighbour raised the alarm after the blaze broke out at around 2pm on Saturday, at Sea View Road, Parkstone.

Two crews from Poole and one from Westbourne went to the scene. They led two people to safety and treated them at the scene before handing them over to paramedics. The Red Cross also helped the occupants.

Dorset Fire and Rescue said “The occupants were very lucky that a neighbour raised the alarm as there was no working smoke detector in the property.”

The fire destroyed the bed where the tea light fell, as well as causing smoke damage to the flat.

Fire crews have fitted smoke detectors in the flat.
