A MAN was punched in the head by a deliver driver in an early-hours assault, police said this morning.

Officers are looking for witnesses to the incident, which happened at 3.45am on Friday outside a home in Old Christchurch Road, between Fir Vale Road and the Lansdowne Roundabout.

Police said that a man opened the door to his home to a delivery driver who said that he wanted to make a delivery.

An argument ensued and the victim, a 23-year-old man, told the driver to leave.

The delivery man refused, pushed the victim and then punched him to the head.

The victim sustained scratches to his chest and arm.

PC Craig Jeffery, of Bournemouth police, said: “I believe that three passers-by stopped. One of them intervened to stop the assault and one of them filmed the incident.

“The delivery driver then got into his blue vehicle and drove off.

“I am appealing for these three passers-by and any other witnesses to come forward and contact Dorset Police.”

The delivery driver has been described as of Middle Eastern appearance and of heavy build. He had no facial hair and wore a blue body warmer and blue jeans.

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101, quoting incident number 12:298.
