THE future of a Bournemouth convenience store accused of failing to prevent crime and disorder will be decided at a private meeting.

Dorset Police has asked councillors to review the licence of the best-one convenience store in Windham Road, Springbourne.

But it has refused to make public any details of their concerns about the shop and off-licence.

The only thing that is known is that Dorset Police “do not consider the premises to be promoting the licensing objectives of the prevention of crime and disorder and public safety”.

It’s understood there could be a criminal case pending, involving the shop and its owner.

Bournemouth Council confirmed they received no other objections during the statutory public consultation period and the only representation is from Dorset Police.

The police has also asked Bournemouth Council to exclude the press and members of the public from Tuesday’s hearing, which has been agreed on the grounds the meeting will “involve the likely disclosure of exempt information.”

At this behind closed doors hearing, which will be chaired by Cllr Andrew Morgan, the police will present evidence to the licensing board and councillors will have to decide whether or not they want to take any action.

If they do decide action is needed, they could choose to add extra conditions to the shop’s licence, modify existing conditions, remove the Designated Premises Supervisor or revoke the licence altogether.

Their decision will be subject to appeal by both Dorset Police and the holder of the premises licence and the decision will not take effect until after the appeal period of 21 days has passed.
