A GROUNDBREAKING ceremony will take place at Bournemouth’s Pier Approach tomorrow to launch one of the council’s flagship projects in its Seafront Strategy.
The eastern side of Pier Approach is being transformed as part of the council’s 20-year vision to develop a world-class seafront.
Work is now under way to create a tourist information kiosk close to the beach, a water play feature with interactive jets, colourful lighting and landscaping improvements.
Leader Cllr John Beesley said: “Improving the gateway from the gardens to the seafront is a vitally important investment that demonstrates the quality of what Bournemouth has to offer and is another step towards creating a world-class resort. We want to attract new visitors and encourage residents and their families to spend more time here and enjoy Bournemouth’s award-winning gardens, parks and beaches.”
The £4million cost of phase one of the scheme has been funded by the council, with a further phase to follow for the western side of Pier Approach, subject to securing additional cash.
The work is expected to complete by spring 2015.
