AN INSPIRATIONAL amputee from Bournemouth has completed a gruelling 12 mile obstacle course to raise funds for cause close to his heart.

Jack Eyers, who is personal trainer at FitSpace Gym, was joined by three of his colleagues to complete the Tough Mudder Challenge on Saturday to raise money for Scope.

The 25-year-old, who was the poster boy for the Strip for Scope campaign last year, was born with the rare genetic condition proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD) and elected to have his right leg amputated aged 16.

Nine years later, the fitness fanatic said he’s determined not to let his disability hold him back.

“I train quite hard in the gym and I was getting a bit bored,” he said.

“I love a challenge and go through life thinking about what my next challenge is going to be.

“Somebody said why don’t you do a half marathon but that’s not really for me. Then I saw the Tough Mudder challenge and wanted to give it a go.”

After hearing about Jack’s plans to complete the course, which is held in Winchester, his FitSpace colleagues Emily Flackett, 20, Liam Taylor, 23, and Alex Jewers, 25, signed up too.

The team, who have raised more than £1,300 for the charity so far, swam though ice baths, scrambled over walls and dived off 4m platforms during the extreme course.

“It was challenging,” Jack said.

“But we loved it.”

“The worst part was being electrocuted. The best part was the cold beer at the end,” he added.

The team, who completed the course in four and half hours, say they are already planning their next fundraising adventure.

“We have got a taste for it now,” Jack said.

“We want to climb Ben Nevis next and maybe we’ll do another Tough Mudder next year.”
