Police helicopter searching for car driver
A MAN hunt was launched after the driver of a stolen BMW ran off following a police chase in the Springbourne area of Bournemouth yesterday evening.
A spokesman from Dorset Police said the male driver of a black BMW 525, which had been reported stolen, failed to stop on Cleveland Road at around 7pm.
Police pursued the vehicle but lost sight of the car. The police helicopter was scrambled after a man fitting the driver’s description was seen running away from the area, the force spokesman said.
Witnesses said four police cars and two police vans were also seen searching for the motorist.
The helicopter was stood down at around 8.50pm. The stolen BMW was recovered by police.
The driver was not found.
