CHARITABLE folk tucked into cakes, cookies and cheesecakes to support the World's Biggest Coffee Morning at events across the region today.
Workers, shoppers and community groups rallied behind Macmillan's biggest fundraising event of the year, which raises millions of pounds to fund the work of Macmillan nurses.
And in Christchurch, shoppers and diners were treated to a special performance from a ukulele band, which busked in Saxon Square to raise funds for the charity.
Debi Thorne, display sales manager at the Daily Echo, organised a cake sale and raffle at Echo Towers.
After receiving support from Macmillan nurses when her husband Larry died just under two years ago, Debi said she was determined to raise funds for the charity.
She said: “For people like me who received help from the Macmillan nurses we know how important they area. Without people doing things like this and supporting these events they wouldn't be there.”
She added: “I always supported this kind of thing but since Larry died I've been more determined to raise money for Macmillan. Last year we raised more than £1,000 and I'm hoping we've raised even more this year.”
Jane Long, organiser of the UKE Glory band, which busked in Saxon Square, said the group raised hundreds of pounds for the charity.
“It was brilliant,” she said.
“We performed about 60 songs over two hours. I think we raised about £300 for Macmillan, which is fantastic.”
Other Macmillan coffee morning events were held at Flirt Cafe in the Triangle and at Latimer House in Christchurch.
