A MAN who died after plunging 30ft into Bournemouth’s Winter Gardens car park has been named as 41-year-old Darren Bain.

Mr Bain, of Forsyth Gardens, Ensbury Park, was with two friends when he fell and sustained fatal injuries on Thursday, September 18.

Police and South Western Ambulance were called at around 1.15pm and the air ambulance landed at around 2pm in nearby Exeter Crescent car park.

The car park and nearby Exeter Road were closed while paramedics did their best to save his life, but Mr Bain was declared dead at 2.34pm.

An inquest, opened and adjourned on Wednesday in Bournemouth, heard that a post mortem examination had been carried out the previous day.

The conclusion was that Mr Bain died of internal bleeding, caused by blunt trauma.

Samples of blood have been sent away for toxicological analysis.

The body of Mr Bain, who was born in Gravesend in Kent in May 1973, was formally identified by his father.

The coroner was told Mr Bain was at the top of a steep slope which runs around the edge of the car park when he fell.

The top of the slope can be accessed behind several properties, including hotels in Tregonwell Road and Priory Road. Despite the frantic efforts of crews from both South Western Ambulance and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

The inquest was adjourned for a full hearing to a provisional date of November 21.
