A MAN remains in a stable condition after being stabbed in an attack in Southbourne.

The incident took place in the early hours of Monday morning, with the man found by police in Seabourne Road with stab wounds shortly after.

Residents from Norwood Place, just off Seabourne Road, reported hearing screams and shouts in the street around 1am.

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. She remains in police custody.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “Officers were called at 1.32am to Seabourne Road and located a 55-year-old man with stab wounds.

“A 55 year old woman from Tyne and Wear was arrested and is being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder.

“The victim was taken to Poole Hospital with life threatening injuries. The couple are known to each other.”

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said the man was in a stable condition on Tuesday morning.

Forensic officers were at the scene yesterday, examining the road and surrounding area.

Investigators were also seen working at a Dave Wells property where the man was understood to have lived.

Steve Wells from DWP Housing Partnership said: “DWP Housing Partnership owns four houses in Norwood Place.

“The development was built in 2008 and the properties are rented out.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further on the arrest made.”

Part of the road was taped off yesterday morning, with uniformed officers stationed at the scene, manning the cordon.

Despite some residents reporting shouting and screaming in the night, many were unaware of the attack until they saw the police cordon.

Thomas Pittaway, 24 said he heard screaming from both a man and woman around 1am.

“I was completely oblivious to what had happened until I went across the road to One Stop to get a drink an hour later and saw all the police”, he said.

“They were parked up on the main road as well as outside here.”

Resident Lin Smith said she was woken up around 1.30am.

“I said to my neighbour that something – I can’t say exactly what – made me wake up around that time.

“This is a very close knit little community. It’s a lovely place to live. I’m shocked to see all the police.

“There are people of all ages here. We look out for one another. I feel quite numb.”

Staff from GC Produce, on the corner of Seabourne Road and Norwood Place, said police were on the scene when they arrived for work early in the morning.

Their vans are usually parked on Norwood Place, and the back of warehouse backs onto where the house being examined stands.

Student Flora Thomas, 17, added: “I woke up and saw the yellow markers on the road.

“That was around 7.30am. My brother woke me up shouting to my parents about it.

“It’s a really quiet little road. No-one comes down here.”

Another resident said the road is normally very peaceful, except for the odd incident of drunken behaviour from people walking by late at night.
