An auction night, in aid of Burnsall School, raised £1,700 – but the children have donated part of the proceeds to the special-care baby unit at Airedale Hospital in Steeton.

The event was held at the Clarendon Hotel, Hebden, and saw local businesses and individuals donate a total of 45 lots, ranging from a spin in a vintage car to meal vouchers and family days out.

Organiser, mum and pub landlady Hayley Crampton sourced all the prizes for the event and local personality Ian Douglass auctioned them off in his inimitable style to a packed pub.

Hayley said: “The special-care baby unit does such a tremendous job and they touch the lives of so many people.

“Burnsall School is delighted that they have been able to make such a fantastic donation to them.”
