A BOSCOMBE resident was left fuming after an alarm at the Sovereign Shopping Centre was left sounding for several hours through the night.

Laura Horwood, 23, who lives directly behind the Sovereign Shopping Centre in Gladstone Road West, had to endure the noise until four o’clock in the morning on Tuesday.

“It started at around 9pm and I had my headphones on and was playing my PlayStation when I started to notice it.”

“I phoned the police three times and I phoned the council out of hours and lodged a noise complaint with them.”

“It’s not the first time it’s gone off, it happens quite regularly”.

“The first day I moved into my house in February, the alarm was going off in the background.”

“It disturbed my dog and my boyfriend couldn’t sleep. He was really annoyed about it.”

“I had to take the next day off work as I text my manager and said if this is still going on at 3am, I wouldn’t be coming in”.

Laura emailed the Sovereign Shopping Centre following the incident.

She was told that shopping centre uses an external response company who respond to the alarm out of hours but “unfortunately did not turn up on this occasion.”

When contacted by the Daily Echo, a spokesperson for the Sovereign Shopping Centre said: “The alarm system is monitored by an external company 24 hours a day who respond to alarm activations immediately.

“We are currently investigating why, on this occasion, the response took longer than normal and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

A Dorset Police spokesperson said they were called at 11.22pm to a report that the fire alarm had been sounding for two hours.

Officers attended however they were unable to access the building or security.

They said: “It appeared no offence had taken place and the fire service were made aware.”

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service said they did not attend at that time.
